Golf Lovers in Crete
"If its 37 degrees and sunny, we'll come out and play a couple rounds of golf. If it was 20 degrees and there was no snow, I guarantee we would still be out here."
Drew Fuglestad
Everyone who plays golf knows that preparation is no guarantee that the "Golf Gods" will not punish you on any given day and for no apparent reason.
However, it's the preparation and understanding of golf as a culture that compels us all to love it so much.
Why is this so? Why is that you can wander out to a local club on a Saturday or Sunday morning (or both mornings for that matter!), spray it all over the place for 5-6 hours, lose 3 sleeves of balls, get sunburned or catch a cold, have a fight with your wife for not taking her out, tweak your bum hip on that shank you hit out of the rough on No. 13 and still feel at the end of the day that you really had a great time?
Maybe because "Golf is deceptively simple, and endlessly complicated; it satisfies the soul and frustrates the intellect. A child can play well & a grown up can never master it. It is almost a science, yet it is a puzzle with no answer". Arnold Palmer
The Crete Golf Club
The Crete Golf Club (only 12 km far from Lavris Hotels) is the only 18-hole golf course on the island of Crete and one of the most impressive courses of the Mediterranean, which holds a unique challenge and a pleasant experience for both golf players and visitors all year round.
The Crete Golf Club has a lay-out that few visitors will ever forget. Course architect, Bob Hunt, has taken what was once an unkempt piece of rugged mountainside and transformed it into a verdant oasis surrounded by some of the most beautiful views in the whole of Europe.
The course itself is best described as a desert-style lay-out, featuring expansive fairways hewn through rocks and ravines. Visitors soon realize that the emphasis is on accuracy, although the landing areas are generous enough to accommodate all but the most errant shots. All around the course, the golfer can enjoy stunning views, both of the mountains and the coastline some ten minutes drive away. It is a stunning backdrop to what will be a memorable day.
